CSS provides comprehensive services for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are committed to the provision of quality community-based services to individuals with developmental disabilities. Individuals will be supported in accordance with their needs in school, work, home, and the community. Services to be provided may include, but are not limited to: special education, customized employment, supported living/residential, behavioral supports, transportation, and recreation. Services are designed by the individual, the individual’s family, and others who know the individual well. Services are rendered in the environment in which the individual desires to live, work, recreate, or pursue educational goals. Services are fashioned to support each individual to pursue his/her own self directed life goals. Our vision is to create an inclusive environment based on trust, respect, and equality, where individuals are supported to direct a meaningful life of their choice with all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of other citizens of the State of Maryland and the United States of America.
CSS provides support and services to adults which align with the current service definitions in the DDA waiver. Multiple services may be chosen by an individual and used sequentially to provide the desired service schedule. The specific activities an individual prefers may be allowed in different waiver service definitions in the same day or across the week.
CSS provides services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities, ages 6 to 21. Children may be referred by family members, Montgomery County, case managers, or MCPS depending on the service requested. CSS is authorized to provide services under the autism waiver, DDA waivers, M.C. Aging and Disability, and Maryland State Department of Education. All services are designed to meet the health and safety needs of each child and to comply with all county, state and federal requirements.
The Marcia D. Smith School is an accredited nonpublic school, which operates under the umbrella of Community Support Services, Inc. The school is approved to provide both residential and day special education services to students ages 11-21 with autism, intellectual disabilities, and/or multiple disabilities. CSS accepts referrals from Montgomery County Public Schools and other Local Education Agencies (LEA) in Maryland. The LEA determines if a student is referred for day or residential special education service. The total school enrollment capacity is 25 students.
If you, or someone you know, who is a Montgomery County resident and is interested in receiving services from CSS, please submit an admissions referral form. Referrals may be sent by Autism Waiver case managers, CCS, or family members. Children may participate in services short term, or continuously throughout the year for one or more services.
