Craft & Giftmaking at CSS – December 15th, 2024

December 19, 2024

The Holiday Craft and Gift Making Event was held at CSS. Individuals supported by CSS and their staff attended.  They made gift bags using stickers, markers, and ribbon.  They also made reindeer using pinecones and ornaments.  Other individuals made scarves out of different patterns.

The event was exciting, awesome, and included lots of opportunities to be creative.

Holiday Party December 2024

December 12, 2024

On December 8th, 2024, we came together for an awesome Holiday Dinner and Dance Party.

The party was at the CSS resource center in the decorated gym, even the walls were dressed up for the celebration. We had fun being with our friends. Some of us came with our families too. When we heard our favorite songs we enjoyed dancing. There was some good food too.

We’ve made a video about the party. Please watch and enjoy!

Prom and Spring Formal

August 21, 2024

On Sunday, June 2nd, students from the Marcia D Smith School and individuals supported by CSS enjoyed a magical evening during the Prom and Spring Formal. This event celebrates the MDS School graduates and welcomes transitioning youth who will be joining CSS this summer.

Gasps of delighted surprise could be heard from those walking down the star and flower lined hallway. Attendees entered through golden gates festooned with paper flowers to be greeted by a transformed gymnasium. The stars and sparkles were only outshone by the enjoyment in students’ eyes.

After everyone had arrived, those graduating from the Marcia D Smith School and others entering the adult program this summer were recognized and together they commenced a dance symbolizing their entrance to CSS.

Everyone had been talking about the upcoming dance for weeks; it’s one of the favorite events at CSS. For a special treat, DJ MadMax mixed up an excellent setlist and played everyone’s favorite music throughout the night. Food and drinks were in abundance; attendees enjoyed pizza and snacks served by volunteers.

It wasn’t all about the dancing and food. Prom is truly about making memories with one another. Party goers enjoyed drinks and snacks with friends and family. Laughter could be heard as people began to disperse for the evening. Even as the room began to empty, Pia and Caitlin were still seen on the dance floor and were some of the last to leave. When the night ended, everyone left smiling, faces aglow from a cosmic evening under the stars.

You can view pictures from the event online.

And there is a video online that you may watch.

Decorations were donated by families and the Landon School. Volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the weekend and without them none of these memories would be possible. Thank you.

Congrats to the Class of 2024!

August 20, 2024

Graduation is a milestone – a marker on the timeline of life that signifies we are ready to face whatever lies ahead. And thanks to the skills they’ve acquired over the years at CSS, this year’s Marcia D. Smith School graduates are ready to take that next step. In front of a full house, Thien-An, Daniel, and Tommy celebrated their hard work and success June 14th as they prepare to transition to adult services. A previous classmate, Leah, from the class of 2022 was the guest speaker, and she shared with the graduates what to expect as they transition into adult services. Then a current classmate, Masha, played Antoshka on the piano. After kind and encouraging words from Mercy, Laurent, and Jamil, instructional associates who have been working with the students, we enjoyed a slideshow presentation highlighting the accomplishments of the graduates.

We look forward to watching all three graduates tackle the next chapter, and being there with them to help navigate adult living and to celebrate their progress along the way.

CSS in the News!

August 19, 2024

Councilmember Evan Glass attended the 16th Annual Community Support Services’ Olympics in Montgomery County and his team published a video about our event.

Councilmember Glass reported,  “While our hometown heroes like Katie Ledecky continue to win big at the Paris Olympics, I recently had the pleasure of celebrating some remarkable athletes at Community Support Services’ 16th annual Olympics.

CSS does important work by providing quality, community-based service to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities. You can watch a short video about the event here.

Thank you to all the athletes, staff and parents who made this event so much fun.

Congratulations to all the participants!”

Thank YOU Councilmember Glass for your support and we hope to see you again next year!
