Citizens in Montgomery County are fortunate to live in a community that strives to include all people in the fabric of their communities. Montgomery County, through the Disability Network Directory, has provided hyperlinks to informational resources that provide services or programs to people with disabilities. The Disability Network Directory is an invaluable, extensive resource – but additional resources are included here that may be useful.
IDD Commission – A Montgomery County Commission focusing on promoting direct communication among families, support staff, private and public organizations and the public about programs and services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Live Healthy – Healthy, Dental and Prescription Discounts – The Live Healthy program continues to provide FREE prescription discount cards and has added a low-fee Dental Discount program that provides discounts on check-ups, cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals and more. The low-fee Health Discount program provides discounts on vision services, hearing aids and screenings, diabetes supplies and more.
Trail Trekkers – An organized, inclusive walking club sponsored by Montgomery Parks! This free program, designed for individuals with disabilities and their friends, family, and community members, will take place at various accessible trails within Montgomery County, providing participants with the opportunity to immerse themselves in diverse natural surroundings and engage in conversations with fellow trekkers while creating long-lasting friendship.
Autism Society of Maryland – A nonprofit providing information and resources to connect people in the Autism community with the support they need. The Autism Society has offices in Montgomery, Howard and Anne Arundel counties
The Montgomery County Police – Autism/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD), Alzheimer’s and Dementia Outreach Unit – This unit has worked to create what is now a “culture of awareness” in Montgomery County and beyond. The program began in 2005, partly in response to the growing number of police calls for service involving missing residents with autism/IDD, Alzheimer’s, and Dementia. The program has continued to develop and today provides a “total approach” to issues that these residents and police encounter through Education, Outreach, Follow-up, Empowerment, and Response.
The Arc Montgomery County Sibshops – A support group program for children ages 8–13 who have a sibling with special health or developmental needs. Sibshops are a collaboration between The Arc Montgomery County and Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital.
Potomac Community Resources (PCR) – A private, non-profit organization promoting the full inclusion of persons with developmental and intellectual differences into every aspect of community life. PCR offers programs, events and resources for people with I/DD.
Upcounty Community Resources, Inc. (UCR) – A private, non-profit organization promoting the full inclusion of persons with developmental and intellectual differences into every aspect of community life. UCR provides innovative programming for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
